WHY RWANDA?
In this time of economic crisis within our country and what is going on in Haiti and around the world you might ask yourself why Rwanda?
As many of you know in April 6, 1994 genocide began for about 110 days over a million Rwandans were killed, many of them being children, and entire families.
(History about the Hutus and Tutsis they were colonized by the Belgiums. They spoke the same language, but were different ethnic groups. They lived together in peace for more than 500 years. Rwanda was independent in 1962. There was great resentment among the Hutus against the Tutsis because of the things they were told “educated” by the Belgiums. The Belgiums favored the Tutsis over the Hutus. The genocide was planned years in advance by Hutu extremist. Identification cards were issued by the government years before, that said if you were Hutu or Tutsi. The president’s (Habyarimana) plane was shot down and that evening in 1994 the nightmare began.
The aftermath of such devastation is for many unbearable, but forgiveness and healing is found in Rwanda today. By the grace of God survivors and perpetrators are coming together. They worship, shop in the market, attend church, play, work, and eat together. This can only happen because of God’s presence and power among them. Rwanda will be a role model of Reconciliation to all, in 11 years this country has come a long way. (Matt.19:26 says: “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”) God’s Grace how wonderful it is!
Forgiveness and Love are part of there everyday. Jesus is changing hearts and they are willing to listen to God’s word. God grace and blessing is on this nation to bless the rest of the world so that we can see that even though there is such evil in this world God brings good to those who love Him.
