A family of Chiloe [pic 1]
In the Island of Chiloé Ramon Bustamante lives with his family, he always wears a poncho and works in the fields with his two sons named Cristofer and Roberto, he has a wife named Carmen and two dogs that help them gather the flock of sheep , in his house there is a greenhouse and a large vegetable garden where they harvest carrots, lettuce, potatoes and garlic. His house is made of wood, has tiles and a wood stove. They go to church mass every Sunday, and some mornings Ramon goes out to fish in his old boat in search of some fish that include the Róbalo and the Peje Rey, among others, there the winter is very cold that's why every summer They had to cut firewood to keep it, it was on one of those long summer days that Ramón and his children went into the mountain to look for dead trees that would serve as firewood, before he and his children began a prayer so that the work that day would give them good results, that day was not different from another, but at dusk the vehicle broke down and they had to find refuge in a small ranch that they had made to cover themselves with the rain, suddenly it started raining and they were hungry, Roberto, the eldest son, remembered that their mother had made them tortillas to eat so they heated some water in a bonfire and they drank a mate with the rich tortilla, while they were there they told stories of how that forest had come to have so much wood from dead trees, it was surprising for Cristofer the sudden change of landscape each time they passed the forest that was always green to where they cut the wood that was like a cemetery of trees, many years ago there had been a great fire that no one knew where it had originated but had devastated many hectares of forest, thanks to the rain the fire went out and left part of the dead trunks that now they used to warm their house, Cristofer and Roberto this story made them think about How careful you had to be with their fires and they told their dad that when they left they had to make sure to turn it off, their dad was very happy that they were considered with the forest because he thought it was a duty of a chilote man to take care of his environment so that it would last for many generations, Ramón was thinking about that when in the distance he heard the sound of a truck and saw that Roberto hurried to reach it and got the driver to get off, the man was a neighbor of them and helped them with pleasure to tow his vehicle to his house, and offered to review it the next day. When they arrived at their house they told their mother what had happened and she told them very happy that the most important thing was that always in Chiloé there was a person willing to help others and that they had to keep that habit forever.
