Introduction:
The case study is about a young and dynamic person, Alex Sander, in the field of Toiletries division at Landon Care Products. Landon Care was acquired by Avant-Garde, a multi-billion dollar European company and Alex was assigned to release a product, Nourish, into the US market which was a modified version of already existing one in Europe. With this Avant-Garde wanted to obtain a major share in the competitive US market and set their foot in the States. The new management is considering the process of 360 degree performance review which involves going through feedback from all the superiors, peers, direct reports and work on them to make sure they bring the best out of every employee and in turn increase the company’s revenue.
Present situation:
Alex is the person behind rebranding two of the major products successfully in the US market within a span of one year. He is a hardworking and target oriented person and he would not take any excuse from anyone in getting the job assigned, and he wouldn’t bother to be commanding. This nature has produced results but his boss thinks that he lacks the leadership qualities and the mindset to work with other individuals peacefully. Expecting the team to work at the same level that he is working has created only troubles and demoralizing the team. If Alex has to be a leader then he needs to know how to get the work done from other people as he alone cannot complete the job. Right now Alex is worried about the launch of the new product and Sam wants him to become a better manager by considering the feedback from the other people. In order to have a secure position in the company as a good team leader, Alex needs to be more understanding and respect other people and their work, work as a team rather than as an individual and stop being arrogant.
Sam wants Alex to grow as a leader and also at the same time be important to the project and understand other individual’s concern. Instead of compensation for the work done by the team he wants Alex to respect and value performance measures. Alex wanted to make use of the present opportunity and highlighted that he wants to learn about the company’s business, the beauty care market and as well influence the strategic decisions that are made in the company. Sam brought this topic in his 360 degree review meeting with Alex and suggested him ways on how he needs to change his ways of thinking about the team and their efforts and recognize their part in the project for him to be a leader.
Sam suggested that he read the feedback given by the individual’s and respond to them by changing his nature. He wants Alex to be a people’s man, a motivator and not the one who is hated by every other person. Alex needs to consider the feedback that was received from everyone in a serious way and come up with ways that can improve the present situation in the team.
