Arguing Essay on Homeschooling

Is homeschooling the best way for children to receive their basic K-12 education? Homeschooling has the best advantages for children to gain their education. Most parents often find homeschooling to be the most effective educational setting for their children. The advantages homeschooling provides is an efficient opportunity for students to learn within their own environment. It allows students to learn at their own pace and receive the one on one attention some kids need to be successful in learning and also parents are able to become more involved with their children’s education allowing them to take care of their child’s needs and not conform to the public schools system and scheduling. Although home schooling can be great for some kids it mostly depends on the student.

Some would argue that the lack of social setting can have a negative impact that can result in the inability to interact and socialize with new people. In public school students are able to interact and socialize with students their age and also participate in extracurricular actives such as sports. “ A central issue in the debates regarding the appropriateness of home education is the potential of insulating children from other members of their community and thereby limiting their social and emotional development.” (Home school 2007)

But with homeschooling it actually gives kids more time to have the opportunity to be active and involved within their community.

Over the past decade students in the past years have enrolled into home schooling. Studies have shown that test scores compared to students in public schools are higher than the average student. “Public school students had an average score at the 50th percentile, and the homeschooled students had an average score at the 84th percentile.
