Abstract
The renaissance art era is known for its uniqueness. The style of art was very distinct and took the era by storm. This paper will display two pieces of art from that era. These two pieces will give example and show how those pieces of art represented the renaissance era.
The Renaissance art era got its start and distinct style in Italy around 1400. More than art just came from this era, music, philosophy, literature, and science developed. New techniques were used when developing art and some of the most amazing pieces came to form during this time. Renaissance art marked the transition of Europe from the medieval period to the early modern age. There were more than just two-dimensional art forms but there were amazing three-dimensional pieces that best describe that time period.
The first piece is a sculpture of Hercules and Cacus. This piece was done in white marble and is located in Florence, Italy. The artist was Baccio Bandinelli depicts Hercules, who killed the fire-belching monster Cacus during his tenth labor for stealing cattle, is the symbol of physical strength, which juxtaposed nicely with David as a symbol of spiritual strength, both symbols desired by the Medici. This piece is a three-dimensional piece of art. Pieces like this one show how much work went into the details of a piece. It also show the depth than an artist can go when being artistic.
The second piece is called the battle of Centaurs. This piece was created by Michelangelo while he was under the patronage of Lorenzo de Medici. This piece shows the early work of Michelangelo and was just the beginning of things he would come to create; he was the tender age of 17 when this was created.
