INTRODUCTION
When a particular type of administration is used by an organisation it is called as Bureaucracy. This type of management at any level depicts a system of authorities divided into hierarchies, the roles and responsibilities are divided according to status of job, strict guidelines and rules are followed, and documenting whatever actions irrespective of their effect performed. In general bureaucracy is associated with government, but any type organization or institute that relies upon this type of system, which guides their vision, mission and goals are said to be bureaucratic in nature. This type of system prevailing at any level in any organisation is not much popular, as people and other person's involved in the system perceive this to be unnecessarily more restrictive and inefficient guidelines which are mere in pen and papers. The management system prevailing in this type of organizations follows a vertical pyramid structure where more employees are usually seen at lower levels, than at administrative or top management levels. The officers are lower levels are expected to be guided by rules and regulations dictated by the top officials. There are both pros and cons attached with this type of system. This essay will focus upon different advantages and disadvantages of bureaucratic system and will present a comparative analysis taking both past and present into consideration. The essay will address the issue of bureaucratic management with relation to organisation and management.
BODY
Max Webber is credited for the proposition of this bureaucratic system for regulation of organizations. According to him, for efficient management, the organizations can be divided into different increasing or decreasing power structures in order to draw line of control and authority for each stage. According to him, the organizations works at levels in bureaucratic manner even though not generalized. According to Max weber in a bureaucratic system there operates different types of factors like task specialization, differentiation both in horizontal and vertical form, decentralization of tasks, standardization procedures and formalization at each levels. Weber tried to show how bureaucratic system which has its roots in history can proved to be efficient in modern society. There have been many changes from past which has added advantages to the bureaucratic system of present. For example- the concept of bureaucracy is much evolved in present times, in present times the laws as well as roles and responsibilities are more clearly defined than traditional times. This has made administration at any level answerable to changes in structure or rules and regulations. This type of system was absent in traditional system, where the bureaucratic leaders in any organisation changes the rules and regulations as per his/her wish and depends upon his personal choices too.
