Charitable Press Comics
Charitable Press Comics (CPC) is a start-up nonprofit organization. The mission of Charitable Press Comics is to help fund charities such as St. Jude Children's Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project (Charitable Press, 2012). A second mission of the company is to help aspiring comic book creators publish their books. An official mission statement for the company has not been developed as of this time.
Proposed Business Model
The comic book industry is dominated by two major companies, Marvel Comics and DC Comics. There are plenty more comic book publishers than just the big two; the biggest of those is Image Comics. Image Comics is the basic business model that Charitable Press Comics plans to use to build its business. The main premise of the model is that Image Comics does not pay the creative teams upfront but instead are paid based off the sales of their book. Charitable Press Comics will be responsible for the marketing of the books that are selected for the CPC imprint. Charitable Press will also handle fund raisers for the company and its associated products. Not all comics will be selected for print run but all comics under the CPC imprint will be available for digital download through the company website.
Organization Importance
Charitable Press Comics is of interest to me because it is focused on charity while also helping new creators get noticed by helping them to build a portfolio that could be of interest to the bigger name publishers (Charitable Press, 2012). I currently sit as a board member for this organization and will be in charge of funds and reviewing new submissions as they are sent in.
