Dehydration
One of the most important elements for living as a human being is water consumption. Everyone should have learned in their life that staying hydrated is very important for survival. It is also important to know the early signs of dehydration. Water is a very healthy beverage choice.
For the body to function properly it must be adequately hydrated. Three fourths of our body is made up of water. This water is contained in cells, between cells and in blood vessels (Wedro, 2010).
Water is a vital factor in health maintenance. Drinking water can help the body to avoid urinary tract infections and cleanses the body of impurities (Squidoo, 2010). People that exercise need to drink water to lower their body temperature. This allows a person to get through their exercise and get the most out of it. Water is even more important for pregnant and nursing woman as it is a crucial factor in their baby’s development. Athletes also find water to be very important so they can perform well. By drinking more water, the body using it to dissolve calcium and decreases the development of kidney stones.
There are many functions of water in the human body. Almost every system in our body relies on water to operate the way they are supposed to. Water prevents constipation, sustains body temperature, moistens the eyes and mouth, and helps to loosen joints. Not only all of that, but also water acts as a taxi cab for transporting nutrients and oxygen to cells and transports waste out of the body. Water helps dilute minerals, blood sugar and other materials to control the acidity levels in the body. Water also is a body guard to cells and protects them in the body (Mayo Foundation, 2010).
If the body has a water insufficiency, it will not work correctly. Some of the parts of the body affected by not getting enough water include the kidneys, liver, muscles, colon and metabolism. The kidneys are affected by improper amounts of water by fat deposits increasing. With this happening, the kidneys can’t do their job and give their job to the liver. The liver then has two jobs to do and cannot do both jobs at the best capability.
Muscles are affected by an insignificant amount of water because water keeps muscle tone. If the person is losing weight, their loose skin will not get tighter the way it should. If the colon doesn’t collect enough water, it pulls liquid from other organs and systems which cause constipation.
Another affect your body has from not getting enough water is water retention. This occurs because when there is not enough water, your body tries to preserve the water that is in the body. The end result could be swelled up fingers, ankles, and feet. Without water the body isn’t able to absorb stored fat the right way (Colon Therapists, 2010).
