1. Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS)
The non-profit CCOHS was established by an Act of Parliament in 1978 and is located in Hamilton, ON. CCOHS’s governing body is comprised of government, employer, and labor representatives to ensure the promotion of and a balanced approach to occupational health and safety (OHS) issues concerning Canadian workers. To this end, products ranging from CANLabel (i.e., software that produces compliant product labels) to OHS awareness raising stickers/posters are offered on a cost-recovery basis. Services offered by CCOHS (i.e., free/cost recovery) attempt to afford Canadians with reliable information and training regarding OHS concerns. For instance, free discussion forums and cost-recovery webinars (e.g., Workplace Inspections) are offered to the public.
2. Institute for Work & Health (IWH)
Located in Toronto ON, IWH is a national independent not-for-profit organization operating on funds from the Ontario Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB) coupled with grants received by IWH scientists. Research in two streams (i.e., OHS protection activities and the recovery of injured employees) is disseminated by various modes of communication (e.g., symposia/fact sheets). For instance, stemming from IWH activities, a guide to improve upon an employer’s ergonomics program can be ascertained by anyone free of charge.
3. Canadian Agricultural Safety Association (CASA)
Operating out of Manitoba, CASA is a national non-profit organization seeking to minimize the hazards associated with agricultural occupations on farms and ranches across Canada through various services.
