Many changes take place in a person’s life between the stages of early adulthood to middle adulthood. Early Adulthood consists of choices leaving home, attending college and trying to figure out who they are. At the other end of the spectrum during middle adulthood comfortability and transitions. Most have answered the question “Who am I?” have children who are leaving home and becoming grandparents.

Family, social and intimate relationships

Tina is a single middle aged mother of three. Jackson, Oliver, and Crystal are all adults and are living at home with Tina. Tina is dedicated to exercise and keeping healthy, she runs and goes to the gym. Because of a perceived decline in her abilities she has increased her workout time. Tina has been dating, Michael for 5 years they have limited time with one another because of time constraints. He has become irritated with her exercising, because it interferes with him and the family. In addition he is overweight and has tendency to eat unhealthy. Michael is ready for marriage but questions how the relationship would sustain because Tina’s obsession with her physical appearance. Tina has a best friend who she confides in, she explains to her what and why the obsession with appearance started. In her previous marriage her ex-husband. Tina decided to remain celibate until she remarries and Michael respects her decision but feels that she is also emotionally unavailable in the relationship. Despite his obvious caring nature and his love for her she doubts his motives and finding reasons why it would not work.

Roles Changes

Tina has had different roles throughout her life. She went from being single to being married, being a mother and now she is a divorced mother of three. Essentially Tina has to be a mother and father to her children even though they are adults. She also has to play the role has a provider of three adults, maintaining the household (rent or mortgage and utilities). She also plays the role as a partner to Michael, being involved requires you to provide another affection, compassion and attention. Although Tina is clearly struggling with her role as a partner.
