EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Our basic purpose of conducting this research was to establish a link between the motivations of long working hours and manager-subordinate relationships. Based on the assumptions that majority of the employees don't prefer to work over-time ( more than official working hours, which vary from one place to another), and those who do have reasons to work over-time related to work life satisfaction rather than just monetary rewards or promotions. Secondly, the secondary research suggested that longer working hours do have an positive impact on the manager-employee relationship due informal meetings and etc.

Our secondary research was mostly based on developed nations rather than developing nations ( like Pakistan). Through our secondary research we were able to establish a few motives behind why employees tend to work over-time e.g. consumerism, perfect worker model and etc. So see whether the secondary research was consistent with the working environment here in Pakistan , we conducted primary research in the form of interviews and questionnaires.

The organization we chose was K-Electric as it's one the few organizations that truly depict the changing nature of the Pakistani work place . K-Electric has turned around completely from being known as a rusty but still functioning organization ,to being a model for efficiency and effectiveness that other companies now aspire to. We conducted interviews in the both upper tier management and middle tier management that were responsible for K-Electrics turnaround.

Through our primary research we were able to link that most of our secondary research findings ,which were applicable to the Pakistani workplace as well but the secondary research didn't emphasize as much on the organization culture as it should have. We hope our report may prove to be useful to future graduates.
