Expectancy Theory

Expectancy theory of Vroom is regarding the motivation and management. Vroom believes that human behaviors are the result of choosing among alternatives to maximize the reward. Theory believes that efforts and performance are positively correlated. Positive performance helps to achieve desired rewards. Rearwards helps to satisfy the needs and desire to satisfy the needs is strong enough to make efforts worthy. A person's trust about the possibility of achieving a most wanted level when putting a certain amount of effort.

Expectancy

The expectations that much time and effort are required to put to achieve the results is the first component of expectancy theory.

Instrumentality

Perception of a person will they get the desired results after putting the particular effort?

Valence

After getting the desired results how much value they will give to the reward is a valence.

Part-1

Example#1

This started when I was in school and preparing for the 10th grades exams. My parents told me they would buy me a laptop if I can get the position in my school. That time I worked hard and I was able to get the position in my school, and my parents bought me my first laptop.

Example#2

This was related to the sports. I was playing cricket in a particular team for some time. Due to some reason, I could not become the part of the same team in a tournament, so I had played from another side. The current team was not that strong, but my performance can help them to reach the finals. This time I performed extra ordinary and my team reached the finals we lost at the end, but my goal was to play the finals, so I achieved that goal.

Example#3

This was related to participating in a competition. Our instructor assigned us to make a blog online on different subjects to different students and then try to bring the visitors on their blogs, and the students got more visitor will win the competition, and in this competition I could not compete with some other students, and one of my fellow wins the competitions and I had failed to achieve my goal.

Part-2

Example#1 Analysis

Value of the reward is very high for me that time because having my laptop was a great success for me.  My expectations was that if I could study the particular subject for at least two to three hours every day I can get the good results in that subject, and the perception of instrumentality was that if I could have a good result in a particular subject that can help me to achieve the desired results in overall exams of that grade.

Example#2 Analysis

As I was playing on a team that is strong so most of the time we were winning on other teams. So this time value of the win is very important for me. The expectations were that if I have a practice of two hours for five days in a week, I can perform well on the ground. And winning of every match can take me to the desired result, and that is to reach the finals. Same thing happened I had practiced two hours for five days a week I was able to perform well in every match, and so we reached the finals of the tournament.
