In today's world there are many famous thinkers that have influenced change upon society through their views. Martin Luther King Jr. and Cornel West are two examples of famous thinkers that with years of their personal experiences that led them to journeys to change society. The abilities by both will be shown throughout and will signify them as two famous thinkers.

Martin Luther King Jr. who was born on January 15, 1929 and from there he started being a leader. Martin Luther King Jr. was born and raised where African-Americans were singled out and isolated in the south of the United States. He started his education and graduated from a public school at the age of fifteen. He then attended college and earned his degree in Sociology from Morehouse College in 1948. He later enrolled at a graduate school in Boston where he met his wife who understood Martin’s purpose in the African-American society. Martin kept on showing the legacy of his father and grandfather by joining a Baptist church serving as co-pastor alongside his father. In this Baptist church is where Martin Luther King Jr. began to introduce his beliefs and values amongst the African-American society. As an African-American minister and leader people looked up to him for all he did in wanting rights for the African-American society.

The next famous thinker Cornel West was born on June 2, 1953 in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he then became an author. Cornel also went to school and attended Harvard University where he received his graduate degree from the prestigious Princeton. Since he was a writer he published a book Race Matters that was published a year after the Los Angeles riots (Walker, 1997). Cornel was admired by Harvard's president Laurence Summers for his political pursuits. He however gathered many enemies through his speeches of the black, poor and working class people.

Martin Luther King Jr. followed most of the African-American society of his time as a Republican. The Republican Party founded the Anti-Slavery Act in 1854 created freedom and civil rights for the African-Americans. Dr. King battled the Democrats who were cruel and encouraged segregation.
