For this assignment my ultimate interest in the seniors was to gather their most memorable moments were. I was to interview three individuals who were sixty-five years of age or older. At least on male and female had to be interviewed, and also had to be of another race than mine. I chose to go to my church and meet with the lady’s group. After speaking with the group, I chose Mrs. S who was sixty-five years of age and of Caucasian descent; likewise I selected Mrs. D who was eighty-four years of age and also of Caucasian descent. I then visited a local community center and met Mr. H whose seventy-fifth birthday is next month; he is of African American descent. After meeting with the wonderful seniors, I was able to gather information on the most memorable moments in each of their lives by using meaningful survey questions. In order to have a successful outcome I used the same ten survey questions for each of the seniors. Throughout this paper I will keep responses from youngest to oldest.
The first question that I asked each senior was what their favorite foods were when they were a child. Mrs. S, the youngest interviewee, replied that she always thinks of the times when her family would go out to the fields and pick out their own watermelons. She told me how the tastes of the watermelons were so delicious unlike today’s melons at the market. I can relate to going to the strawberry fields when I was a child as they are much fresher in taste. Mr. H, the second oldest interviewee, responded that as a child he enjoyed fried chicken. He added that he was always the first in line when his mother was in the kitchen cooking; soul food was what his mother said in reference to the fried chicken. I myself loved fried chicken as a child and as an adult I still love it. I always enjoyed visiting my grandparents with my mom because they were the only ones who fixed greasy fried chicken. The oldest interviewee, Mrs. D, answered that her favorite food as a child was pork chops. She described how she loved to put them in her lunch pail because she did not enjoy sandwiches as her siblings did. Although her family did not often have pork chops, she would get extremely excited when she knew her mother was fixing them for dinner. Growing up my dad always served applesauce with pork chops. Now with a family of my own, I carry on that tradition.
The next question that I asked each senior was what is their favorite indoor or outdoor activity. Mrs. S’s response was that she mostly enjoys cross stitching and playing hidden object games. She also noted that her family teases her because she is always on the computer playing games or lounged back in her chair doing cross stitching. She reminded me of my daughter; she is always playing on the iPad and knitting her creations. The next interviewee, Mr. H answered that he loves to watch football with his family. When it is time for the football season to start, Mr. H
