The IT evolution in India started in the early seventies with large corporations buying computers and establishing data centres. The IT Enabled Services picked up in the 90's.
The IT industry in India has grown at an average annual rate of 30% in the last ten years.
India has abundant availability of skilled manpower.
Reduced telecommunications and internet costs, and import duties on software and hardware have further strengthened the industry.
The breakthrough in export of IT talent helped in establishing the quality of talent in India.
Economies of scale for this industry are high. The marginal cost of each additional unit is insignificant compared to the value addition that results from it.
Global IT services spending increased from $ 566 billion in 2009 to $574 billion in 2010 – America's Share 43% in 2010[42.8% in 2009], Europe/Middle East/Africa 39.7% in 2010[40.2% in 2009], Asia Pacific Revenues 17.3% in 2010[17% in 2009].
