Freedom. This is the first word that comes to my mind when I hear the word American. Our country went through several obstacles, good and bad, during our fight for our freedom. As Americans we should be thankful for the wonderful country we live in and all the rights we have. Without the help of our veterans and current service men and women we would not be living in the world we live in today. So I believe we should be proud to be an American.
Showing pride for being an American can be accomplished in several ways. Simple things such as singing or playing the National Anthem at a local basketball game or even reciting the Pledge of Allegiance during school shows your pride in being an American. Another great way is to attend your community’s events; for example, your community’s Memorial Day or Veteran’s Day services.
By respecting the laws of America and learning more about the government and the way our systems work also shows your pride. Taking part in voting shows your interest in your community and country, just think your one vote could change your government completely.

By recycling our communities, National Parks, lakes and rivers would continue to stay looking beautiful and make where we live a better place for the future. Also just simply being involved in your community can show your pride. For instance being involved in your local 4-H club, girl scouts, boy scouts, whatever it may be, can help your community. Keeping your community looking presentable is not the only way to take pride in your community. Doing random acts of kindness such as, helping an elderly neighbor, or donating to the food pantry or the thrift store can show your pride.
