1. What do you think is the role of Human Resources Management in business today?
Human resource management is one of the very important aspects of an organization. It is the human who provide their efforts and drive a business towards achieving its objectives. Therefore, effective and efficient management of human resources is very crucial for the success of a business enterprise.
In general, the HR department works more closely with the individual employees and performs some basic roles for the organization. When candidates apply for a job, HR department has to recruit and select the best candidate by conducting tests and interviews. It provides different training and development programs to the employees as per their requirement so that they can upgrade and develop their skills and cope with the organizational environment. Performance measurement is another role of HR department. By using some tools and techniques, it measures employee performance and makes important decisions relating to promotion, demotion, termination and training needs of the employees. HR department also implements several motivational schemes on a regular basis for ensuring a congenial working environment for employees which, in turn, minimize employee turnover and absenteeism. Furthermore, HR managers have to carefully deal with the compensation and benefits issues of organization as it accounts for a large proportion of business costs.
As another important role, human resources department needs to be updated with the changes in relevant laws. The department has to prepare and change the ground rules for hiring, firing, discipline and interaction with employees, as well as compensation and benefits in compliance with the local and international labour and employment laws.
Because of globalization, diversity in the workforce, management’s change in focus and existence of national and international laws, the role of HR management has become more challenging than ever before. Rather than having focus only on HR department, HR is now getting involved in overall decision making, and thus contributing to the company as a whole.
