        Golf Equipment, Inc. is quite the interesting company. They have developed a new coating designed to resist cuts and provide a more durable golf ball, at an equivalent distance of some less-durable balls. One concern for the company was the effect of the new coating on driving distances. Golf Equipment wanted the new cut-resistant ball to offer driving distances comparable to those of the current-model golf ball. 40 balls of both new and current models were subjected to a distance test. The testing was performed with a mechanical hitting machine so that any difference between the mean distances for the two models could be attributed to a difference in the two models. As golf is normally a serious investment, the data was interpreted accordingly to make sure that the ball has comparable distance. Since the ball has a comparable distance, this means they have created a more durable golf ball with the *same performance as a softer cover ball.

The statistics for the testing of the golf balls are below, using a 95% Confidence Interval. (Meaning 95% of the time, the numbers fall within the parameters tested.) Some quick numbers I feel that are important to make a quick comparison have been color coded for your eyes. This does not mean this is the Alamo for the new ball, as a quick look shows its yardage a mere 3 yards less on average than the current ball.
