My MPQ Results
Manchester Personality Questionnaire (MPQ) Factor is an instrument to analyze some of the personality traits that are related to job. The test is measuring 12 categories of occupation and the Big Five personal traits. One of the measuring scales used in this tool is called stanine score. Huck (2012) stated, stanine score can be any number between 1 and 9. A person is average if his/her stanine score is a 4, 5, or 6. Stanine scores of 7 or 8 are above average and a stanine score of 9 reflects outstanding performance, for that's the highest score one can get. Stanine scores of 2 or 3 is below average while a stanine score of 1 indicates very low performance.
In the result of my stanine ranking, there is no score above the average, I only have got medium and low scores in the 12 items of OASIS2 Interest Schedule. Which means that none of my interest scales is above average. I believe there is a misplacement in the test, especially that the order of my interest is not similar to the image that I have from myself. For example questions that asked about scientific interest, as I remember did not contain much about biology, though there were questions about chemistry, maths and physics, while I am really interested in biological sciences. If there were questions asking about biology, I would have scored higher than average in science. That is just an example, but it is also true about other fields of interest stated in the test. Another reason can be linked to criterion-related validity issue. Perhaps the scores gained in the test do not match with my performance. For instance, I scored 2 in protective interest, while from the activities I attend I expected myself to score at least as the average, if not above that.
The other scoring system in the test that is used for the big five traits is called Sten(standard ten). Stens
