Mental Health Self Reflective Essay
The definition of mental health is “a person’s condition with regard to their psychological and emotional well-being,” and with that in thought, it has been a long and bumpy rollercoaster for my mental health in the past year. I have gone through my first year of high school, my first major breakup, three different sports seasons, and a general problem of figuring out who I am and who I want to be. All this has affected my mental health in one way or another. It has either affected my mental health in a fairly positive way or in a terrible and negative way. It has all tied in with self-esteem, stress, or depression. They have caused me sickness and health but they have all helped me in being who I am today.
The stress in my life has probably affected me the most out of all the other mental health topics for the reason that I encounter stress almost every day. There is no possible way that I can avoid stress on a day to day basis. Stress in my life can either motivate me to do really well in school or in sports or it can debilitate me and make me ill and sick. For example, when I have been stressed about a race or a sports match in the past, it has caused me to perform very well because it caused me to be more aware and act lively. Another example is when I have been stressed because of a lot of school work, it has caused me to become ill because of my immune system not working properly. I have not yet encountered a stress where it has caused me to give up, which is probably because of my hard work ethic. Stress typically makes me feel like I have to be the best at everything and that I cannot stop until my full potential is reached. The most frequent factor that plays into my stress is schoolwork, friends, sports, and women. The stress that causes pressure in my life is from my parents and from me. I feel a lot of the time that I am pressured to be a straight a student. I feel pressure to make the people in my life happy. Stress has caused me to make sure that I am the best person that I can be which has played a large factor in my self-esteem.
