My fellow MGM classmates,
I am writing this small personal statement to ask for your nomination as Cohort Representative for the September 2011 intake. I have had the opportunity over the last three weeks to slowly get to know each of you and I think I speak for all of us when I say we have an extremely diverse group and we have a unique opportunity to learn as much outside the classroom as we do in.
I have always prided myself on being someone that strived on a daily basis to connect with people. In terms of academic leadership, I was elected a school Prefect during my graduating year at St. Andrew's College. In this role I acted as a liaison between students and faculty and was responsible for organizing social and co-curricular events for the students. The experience proved to be an excellent training ground for future leadership positions and a role I thoroughly enjoyed.
In regards to leadership in the workplace, while my resume is limited in comparison with my extremely talented and experienced classmates, I feel that my roles as Lead Administrator for Ocean Club Condominiums with Baker Real Estate and Academic Tutor/Travelling Coordinator for the Blyth International Summer Program were both challenging roles that provided me with hands-on leadership experience and taught me the art of managing the interests of different parties.
In short, I made it a personal priority before coming to RRU to fully immerse myself in the culture and take on a meaningful role in the community. I have already met a handful of classmates on multiple occasions to discuss some of the concerns we have moving forward. If there is one point I cannot stress enough, it is that I truly know how important this program is for all of us. I took out both a BMO student loan and an Ontario Provincial Loan to make this graduate opportunity a reality and I truly have a burning desire to maximize this
