Opening a Nursery

My husband to be and I already own 25 acreas of land adjacent to our property that was inherited. So the question of where to locate our nursery has already been anseswered for us. We have checked and will have to submit a rezoning request but considering the nature of the business we have been told that it should be approved. I have read that most nurseries are around nine to ten acreas. Some run larger and some do operate on smaller areas but we have decided that we want to use ten acreas for our nursery site. We are fortunate in this aspect because land is one of the largest expeditures in starting a nursery. According to one sourse good charactersitics of soil to be used in a nursery Iis soil that is “tillable” , “well drained” and has the ability to hold water (Dana and Sellmer). We know we will have to spend a good deal of money on soil preparation because the we had the soil tested and it has a high ph. Depending on where we grow certain plants we will have to prepare certain sites. The soil must be prepared a cerain way fro balled and burlapped plants and a cerain way for bare root plants.
We currently have a deep well that we stopped using recently because they ran city water out to where we live. However, the well is still in operation and will be our water source. We had to water tested one year and suluable salts and sodium levels were in the approprate number range. We do not normally have watering restriction where we live so there should be no limitations in this area. Because we are working in so large an area, we will install automated watering systems. Also, these type of watering systems use less water and are less labor intensive (Dana and Sellmer).
We have deteremined that our inititla capital requriements will be buildings, supplies and equipment. Also, labor, utilities, insurance, taxes, inspections and lisences(Dana and Sellmer). We want to initially build 3 two thousand sq ft greenhouses. Our anticipated costs
