Practicum Application

The purpose of this observation is to hypothesize about what the teacher’s construct for discipline/management procedures are in the classroom, and what theory or theories could be identified. During my observations of a kindergarten classroom I was able to identify theories from Friedrich Froebel, Maria Montessori, and Rudolph Dreikurs.

Friedrich Froebel believed that the teacher should see the natural impulses of the child not as a tendency toward evil but as the source and motivation for development and with guidance leads to character in the adult (Gartrell, D. 2014). A student named Julian came into the classroom bumped into another Flora. Julian kept going to his table where he roughly slammed his belongings down. Mrs. Glinski walked over to Julian and asked him if everything was ok. Julian did not respond he ignored Mrs. Glinkski and kept going through his backpack. Mrs. Glinski pulled a chair up by Julian and asked him again if everything is ok. She asked Julian if he knew he bumped into Flora and did not even stop and say he was sorry. Mrs. Glinski explained to Julian how that hurt Flora’s arm and her feelings that he bumped into her arm and then did not say he was sorry. She asked Julian if he could go to Flora and make things right with her. Julian did go to Flora and said he was sorry. Julian went back to his table and then told Mrs. Glinski about a situation that happened at home. Mrs. Glinski asked if he needed a hug and told him she was sorry he had a bad morning but hoped it got better.
