Preteens Case

Were we preteens? I wasn't quite sure, but what I did know was that we were friends, and that he was sweet and had such a warm smile. I could never frown when I was around the boy. He became my best friend on this lonely, dark ship.
I suppose I shouldn't call it a lonely ship though regarding the fact that there were many other people, young and old, on the ship with us, most of whom I didn't recognize. But they didn't matter, Peter and I only needed each other.
I like to think that he was younger than me, perhaps by a year or two because he had the demeanor and outlook on life like that of a child. It was nice, to see that just because one ages over years doesn't mean they can't act like they did before.
But maybe there was something inside of him, a more mature side of him, that wanted to be released. It was odd how everything happened so fast.
I honestly don't even remember how or when I got onto the ship or even when I met Peter.
We were already friends by the time I realized what was going on, and, it was as if he grew up to be older than me faster than a blink of an eye.
I awoke one day and had a pale pink dress on with brown boots and a comfy, brown jacket to keep me warm. I had exited my dreary room to go outside to the deck where most of the travelers mingled.
I waited and breathed into my hands, watching couples and young children pass me by until a handsome boy stood before me. His hair was a deep black and slightly messy. I was surprised to see him only wearing a white long sleeved shirt, underneath some suspenders, and some black slacks. He faintly reminded me of someone but I couldn't recall who.
But he took my hand and kissed it and whisked me into a strong embrace. He had a solemn look but smiled.
