Professional Experiences
The nature and scope of my internship experience would give me knowledge and a better sense of placement while in a work environment. My former experience working in a state of the art fitness center and also my past sports background I feel gave me a much needed edge when it came to my internship. The equipment that is used in the Velocity facility was all things that I have come into contact with, with the exception of 1 platform squat machine. This machine is called the VERTIMAX; it works on your explosion from the squatting position. The way that you use this machine is you put on a belt that has hooks and then there are clamps that attach to a string like bungee cord and you begin in an athletic stance and explode up. Even though there was a varied amount of cleaning and maintaining the facility there was no maintenance done to any of the machines that we use at velocity. The only maintenance that I was assigned to do were in offices changing out “blown” light bulbs and fixing brackets that hang pictures.
While working at “Velocity” I learned many of their business practices as far as being personable and friendly to everyone that comes through the door and even on the phone. The way that you keep good healthy relationships with the kids and their parents is by being personable. The business of sports performance training is a disposable income business, its nothing that is a necessity to most so therefore the kids only come if the paying party has the disposable income to put into it.
Here at “Velocity” there are a few special programs that happen. We do personal session with a young man which has Attention Deficit Disorder. He comes into the facility twice a week for a 45minute personal session. Usually with him we do an extended warm up and then we go into a few acceleration and multi directional drills.
