Quantitative and Qualitative Research
Research can be time-consuming and a challenge to many people. In many research categories, the researcher is apt to choice the qualitative research or the quantitative research methods. Qualitative is described by its aims to understand some of the features of social life. Quantitative is the purpose to classify qualities, count, and create statistical models. There is occasions when the mixed method research combination of both quantitative and qualitative research is completed
Research: Is the systematic investigation into and study of materials and sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions (Oxford Dictionaries, 2016). The six steps of the process of research are identifying the research problem, reviewing the information accumulated, identifying the reason for research, collecting information, reviewing and deciphering the information, reporting research.
Academic research is performed in a college an individual is attending, and for academic purposes. The purpose is to explain the goals, methodology and come to a conclusion of the research and outcomes. A student uses citations, references, and in text citations.
Quantitative research: Research involving formal, objective information about the world, with mathematical quantification; it can be used to describe test relationships and to examine cause and affect relationships. (Fairlax, 2003-2016).
Qualitative research: Research dealing with phenomena that are difficult or impossible to quantify mathematically, such as beliefs, meanings, attributes, and symbols; it may involve content analysis. (Fairlax, 2003-2016).
The difference between quantitative and qualitative research is as follows. Quantitative research is the quantity (amount) of an object or a person. It can be counted and or measured but cannot be experienced. Qualitative research is the characteristics or the attribute or an object or an individual. It can be experienced but not counted or measured.
Both quantitate and qualitative research works well in a human service organization, and at the right appropriate time using the methods on the same research. Working with a victim of domestic violence using the quantitative method can determine how many victims are residing in different safe houses. It can also determine how many of the victims need help with appropriate shelter, food, housing, legal guidance, child care, help with transportation and help to pay the utilities. Quantitative determines the mental state of the victims and help with the determination of the different therapy or counseling they should be involved with. This is done by asking open ended questions.
