The Ruins of Gorlan is first part of the book “Ranger’s Apprentice” and in this part of the book, you meet characters and you learn about their personalities. Will, main character of the book is a ward at Redmont Castle and he hopes that he will become a knight, but because he is too small he wasn’t suitable for knight. Because he didn’t get to be knight, he learns how to be fast and intelligence and he becomes a Ranger’s apprentice. He gets taught by the best ranger called Halt.Althought Halt never smiles, Will admires him and considers him as a father. Together, they fight Kalkars, big animals sent by Morgarath-evil guy that wants to conquer kingdom. They get help by Gilan, former Halt’s apprentice and they kill all the Kalkars and Will and Halt return to their kingdom. This book has vivid description and it is pretty easy to imagine characters, areas and some parts in the story, also, this book is fantasy book and it has a lot of parts that are scary and unexpected.

In this book, there are some vivid descriptions that help u to understand the characters or the situation in what characters are. For example when Craftmasters got into the Baron Arald’s room. “Lady Pauline followed ULF. Slim, grey-haired and elegant, she had been a considerable beauty in her youth and still had the grace and style to turn man’s heads”. There is another one:” Sir Rodney, head of the Battleschool, came first. Tall and broad-shouldered like the Baron, he wore the standard battledress of chain mail shirt under a white surcoat emblazoned with his own crest, a scarlet wolfshed.”

This book is a fantasy book because it has feudal world full of magic and stuff that fantasy book s have.” Some people call it magic. If Kalkara can make u look into her eyes, u becomes paralyzed by sheer terror, unable to do anything to save yourself.” Another example is:” There is it again, he said softly.
