Explain how your chosen two schools of thought view a local environmental issue differently. Be sure to address any ethical concerns or controversies surrounding this environmental issue.
The first school of thought I've decided to speak on is Deep ecology. As per the definition above, ecology The study of the interaction interrelationships between fundamental life or organisms and its physical environment. Deep Ecology will dig deep to ask the why and how issues.
The first environmental issues is the Anacostia River, called the "Forgotten River" which is located very close the Capitol in Washington, DC. The river is an 8mile river that is surrounded by green parkland. The river is highly neglected and polluted with sediment, toxins, pathogens, trash and nutrients. Due to its flat landscape and tidal nature, the river moves and self-flushes exposing it to contamination. The horrible conditions in the river prevent the fish from being edible and swimming by humans. The decline of this river started as far back as the 18th century as settlers began to progress forward with agricultural advancements which was the start of the current erosion and sediment pollution. Because the settlers were trying to build their territory, we never had a chance to see how beautiful the Anacostia River was, how people could swim during a day at the park, and how the fish flourished healthy enough to be eaten. This river runs through some of the poorest neighbors in DC so the government had no need to make it better, improve it, and fix the years and years of human neglect.
