Paulo Freire was a Brazilian ideologist that have radical ideas about the approach to education. According to Freire the “Banking Concept Method” is wrong and he propose a new method named “The Problem Posing Concept”. The “Banking Concept” is a method where the student simply store the information relayed to them by the teacher. He describe the “Banking Concept” as a negative way to educate. The role of the teacher was as depositors and the students are receptors, the “Banking Concept Method” changes humans into objects. Freire think that we are paying a lot of money to teachers only for talk to the students. In this system the students are boring and not pay attention. During the “Banking Concept Method” the teacher talk all the time, the students do not challenge what it says and there is no discussion or debate. The students accept the information without understanding the real meaning. It resists dialogue and it voids that the students learn and develop their intelligence.
Otherwise the “Problem Posing Concept” consist in acts of cognition not only transfer information. It recognizing that knowledge is not deposited from the teacher to the student, it is a dialogue between them. Freire propose that the students challenge their teachers and the students thinks for himself. In my personal opinion I understand that Freire is right to prefer the “Problem Posing Concept” because it is important that we learn to develop own opinions. The thing is that many students have different learning styles and the interaction of knowledge between them and teachers can help the student to make him or her better and make the right decisions.
