The Macro-environment of Apple Inc.

Macro environment analysis is a review of all the factors that a company is unable to control. Companies conduct this analysis to stay abreast of the issue in the current business environment. Apple Computer Inc. is an excellent example of a company who stays abreast of issues in an ever changing business environment. Apple Computer Inc., which represents a fascinating compilation of engineering talent, innovation, perseverance, and success in spite of its dysfunctional leadership. Apple obtains the unique distinction of being the single surviving company from the early days of the industry that is still successfully acting in the computer vending business, as well as challenging Microsoft's dominance in operating systems. Apple also came perilously close to irrelevancy. After the lifeblood of the company, co-founder Steve Jobs was ousted in a boardroom coup in 1985, Apple had too many products, too many departments working on too many platforms, too little focus and very little synergy. The CEO that ousted Jobs and the one that followed bought were inept and lacked the innovation that made Apple once market leaders. Apple's already small market share was dwindling further. By 1996, it had racked up $1.5 billion in losses, and there were weekly speculations over who would buy the company. Jobs was brought back in, in 1997 as interim CEO and reorganised everything from Apples new state of the art headquarters which was designed so that all department would run into each other and departments would be working ,thinking and sharing together. Apple was initially reactive to change but soon turned its strategy to uncontrollable realising to excel in the PC world it needed to scrap many of its products and partnered with its nemesis Microsoft in order to refocus the company and gain grounds in the PC market.
