White-Tailed Deer
An adult male deer is called a buck. Bucks have antlers. Bucks can weight up to 400 pounds. Bucks shed there antlers every year between January and April and then the antlers start to grow again.
An adult female deer is called a doe. Doe’s protect their young. Doe’s can weight up to 200 pounds.
Young deer are called fawns. Fawns have white spots on their body. Fawn’s are born in May and June.
White-Tailed Deer live in Canada they can also live in Northern- South America. Deer can run and swim. Deer can run up to 40 miles an hour. Deer get frightened very easily. When deer are frightened or in danger they stand completely still and wait for the danger to be gone. The habitat for deer can be in the woods, meadows and tall grasses. Deer move by walking on their four legs. Deer are herbivores. Herbivores can eat leaves, grass, bark, acorns and other plant materials. A few enemies of the deer are, bear, wolf, coyote and humans. Deer could not be a pet. You can find deer in a zoo sometimes. Deer is an animal that is born alive and that makes them mammal. White-Tailed Deer have fur coats. In summer their fur is red-brown in color. In the winter their fur turns gray-brown. Deer are warm blooded. Deer bodies make heat so they can stay warm wherever they are. When deer are in the wild they can live about 9-12 years. When deer live in a zoo they can live about 20 years.
