Music Appreciation

November 8, 2015

Classical music is a beautiful array of carefully chosen instruments and rhythm that becomes a masterpiece for all to experience many different emotions.  YouTube was an easier way of listening to multiple compositions and replay them to understand the classical form of each artist.  The first composition was of Brandenburg Concerto Number Three in G Major BWV 1048, by Johann Sebastian Bach in the early 1700’s, which was considered some of the most memorable musical pieces in the Baroque Era.  Concerto Number Three played for about ten minutes.  String instruments were mainly used throughout along with a harpsichord with adagio as well as allegro tempos.  The piece flows wonderfully with natural flow and shifts to peppier movement that allows a variation of pitch to surface.  It was common during the Baroque period for musical compositions to have that dramatic effect on the audience.   By listening, to Bach’s style, it allows one to envision the music resonating throughout an extravagant hall with many guests dancing and enjoying each beat.

The second was of Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik Serenade Number 13 in G Major, K. 525, which is also a string, composed orchestra.  Violins, violas, cellos, and a double bass are used.  Mozart completed the classical composition in 1787 and lasts for about 15 minutes on the YouTube channel for Mozart.  The first movement of the four plays for about eight minutes with allegro form, graceful yet powerful.  The dynamics were dramatic and trill in the beginning with the violins clear with each marcato stroke.  When listening to this piece, it makes my hands want to move to each sharp note played like I am the conductor.

The second movement to Eine Kleine Nachtmusik is 7 minutes in length, takes a Romantic turn with gliding adagio tempos.  Each string instrument also compliments one another by catching each other at their end to continue the rhythm.  I enjoy the second movement more than the first because of the tempo and the tone it makes my emotions feel.  It brightens up the room and I can imagine this music playing in the background of a French big, open kitchen.  While cooking, there are many aromas that are flowing through the air, also complimenting one another to become a wonderful masterpiece.
