Controversial issues in the Media
Today in American controversies sales more compared to back in the 70’s and 80’s before laptops, I-pads, computers and cell phones were in thought. Controversies are a global problem and not just a problem in America. With the help of laptops, I-pads, computers and cell phones it’s easier to get controversial news to the media faster than before.
Nature of the controversy
On February 8, 2009 Chris Brown who’s a well-known R&B singer got into a fight with his girlfriend named Rihanna whom is also a well know R&B singer over a text message that she found from another women on Chris Brown cell phone the couple got into a physical fight which then made headlines all over the news, Facebook and many other social media. What made this story big was the pictures of Rihanna’s lip being busted, bite marks to her ear and the black eye she had. There wasn’t a person in the world that didn’t know about this story and it was hard not to know when it was breaking news. Chris Brown was charged with sexual assault and never did time in jail but this scandal was at an all-time high with so much buzz around it.
Traditional Journalism
Traditional Journalism was to inform people of what was going on in their world which was broken down by proximity, conflict, timeliness, future impact, human interest and prominence. Once industrialization happened journalism grew around industries and enterprising business people emerged and built a business around the business of informing people. The audience today is lost and is being replaced by the power of the audience which means that the traditional ways of journalism that relied of knowledge and information is becoming the creator of the news and journalism themselves thanks to technology.
