Movie | Time and Place | Costume | Set Design | Describe the atmosphere created by the combination of film elements and how they contributed to your liking or disliking of the movie. |
The Last King Of Scotland (2006) | The movie begins with a set in 1970, in Scotland and continues in Uganda through the reign of Amin. It is based on actual events. | The characters often appear in shabby, worn out casual clothing and the soldiers appear to be in uniforms. Also, the clothing for the better off characters are relevant to that era, where they wore close fitting outfits and bell bottom pants and floral dresses. | In some areas the set is mostly rural area with houses made of concrete and in other areas the set is well built and has modern cityscape. The furniture, cars and music reflect the seventies era. Some of the music is also native to Uganda. | The atmosphere of the movie was realistic, I could tell that it was filmed on location. The characters were well accustomed with the culture and time was spent on learning the language, accents and culture. The action going on in the movie was mostly mental, Amin going psychotic, Garrigan fearing his life and the other characters under the influence of Amin. The makeup was minimal, the clothing was very light and airy reflecting the hot temperature with the exception of the soldiers and Amin in their uniforms. |
Jaws (1975) | The movie is set in 1975, a time in which it was filmed and continues with the hunt of this great white man-eating shark lingering near Amity Island. It was filmed based on the novel, Jaws. | The characters are wearing casual wear mostly and swimwear when there were scenes on the beach, they were also dressed professional when the scene called for it. The makeup was minimal even in the sweaty and watery scenes. The outfits were true to the seventies theme. | The set is located on or mostly near the beach. It was very true to its time of the seventies and was filmed on location because of the clever use of the attractions the city provided. | It was a very airy, summery film. Lots of swimming and playing on the beach. Alt of people were enjoying the water, it made me feel wanting of the experience. The sound was very realistic and true to the scenes. It was mostly actual sounds, more so than added sound, this was evident mostly to create suspense. It was also evident that this film was much older and I could nitpick the special effects and other editing that has evolved overtime but the movie was enjoyable nonetheless |
