FILM REVIEW

Name: Trisha B

Name of Film: The Land Has Eyes

Director: Vilsoni Hereniko

Pear ta Ma’on Maf or The Land Has Eyes is a stunning film set on the remote island of Rotuma in the South Pacific. It is directed by Vilsoni Hereniko, a professor and a play-writer. This film centers on the main character Viki, a young female Rotuman high school student who fights for her father’s justice and her own personal freedom. This film is a captivating film that will captivate your heart.

In the film, Viki fights to clear her father’s name after her dad was accused and fined as a thief. Viki is a smart, strong and hard-working girl who is been inspired by the warrior woman from her islands mythology. Though her mother refuses to teach her how to cook and weave mats, her father encourages Viki to concentrate in her studies so that she could get a scholarship to Fiji. Viki brought justice for her father in the end and also got the scholarship to Fiji to pursue better education.

The movie displays the major themes in it such as culture, justice and hard-work. It clearly shows the way of life of the Rotuman people. Viki worked hard in order to pursue her goals in life, which is to clear her father’s name and get a scholarship to Fiji. This film really relates to the things we face in real life.

The appearance of the movie really takes the attention of the person who watches it and the set designs really symbolizes the Rotuman people and culture. This is an original film.

Overall, this film really shows the story of Viki and how she struggles in life despite the challenges that she faced in life extremely well and with the addition of the themes, I would say go watch this movie if you want to become successful in life.
