Provide an example of your use of persuasion.
I have used persuasion with my children to complete their house chores. I have two teenagers at home and both must make sure the kitchen and living room is cleaned every night for one solid week. Once they have completed their work for that week they are to switch chores one must then clean the living room while the other keeps the kitchen clean. There seem to be a problem with them getting their chore done in a timely fashion. I have found it to be very persuasive to get them to complete their chores cleaned by paying the $1 per day for everyday they have their chores done by 7:00pm. If chores are not done by 7:00pm, they must still clean their chores but for free. Persuading them with pay has made a difference in keeping their chores done in a timely fashion.
Provide a second example of your use of manipulation.
A form of manipulation I can say that I have used at some point is when attempting to get my way is by sulking when speaking to someone. One particular time I wanted to go to a concert but didn’t have very many people who were available to go with me. So I called a friend who I knew would be available, however I knew this particular friend didn’t go out often. I asked my friend to go out but they were not interested. I then begin saying things like “okay then, I understand that you do not want to go” then I would just sound really disappointed. When I go into disappointment mode, I often get my way with a friend 50% of the time. At some point my friend said “okay then fine, I will go with you.”
What are the differences? How do arguments and language affect the difference?
When being persuasive the presenter must present claims that are based on logic. There is no logic when someone is attempting to manipulate another person, it is done out of selfishness
