The Death Penalty
Here in the U.S., we have what we call Capital Punishment also known as the death penalty. And like every controversial situation, there are people that agree with it and people that disagree with it. Almost 80% of the people in America are for the death penalty, and of course, the other 20% are against it. I’ am one who is for the death penalty. Because I believe that if you kill you should get the penalty that you deserve. And based of if you kill someone you will get the maximum penalty, which is the death penalty.
I’ am a Christian; however, I still believe that people should get what they deserve. And as a Christian I should be against the death penalty, but I’ am not. I know that people say they are a Christian and use it as and excuse or a reason for what they believe. Because the Bible says people shouldn’t murder; however it also says an eye for an eye. People can sit here and talk whether or not killing someone who killed is right or wrong all day long. But in the end we know that it is right for people to get what they deserve in the terms of penalties.
The states that are for the death penalty include; Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wyoming, U.S. Gov., and the U.S. Military. And the list of those against it are as follows; Alaska, Hawaii, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and The District of Columbia. With these states that are for it, are criminals more likely to think twice about crime if they were to end up getting the death penalty? And for those without the death penalty, are criminals more eager to commit crimes? These are things that people need to think about when discussing whether or not they want or not.
Some arguing points against the death penalty may include items such as financial costs to taxpayers of capital punishment is several times that of keeping someone in prison for life. However, the cost of keeping a prisoner in jail, may add up to be the same as paying for the death penalty or even more. It is barbaric and violates the "cruel and unusual" clause in the Bill of Rights. This may be true, but did that help the person that he/she killed, or what ever crime they committed. The endless appeals and required additional procedures clog our court system, because the courts don’t want to deal with any of the B.S., plus it is just a waste of time.
