The two events I chose for this week’s assignment are the birth of my girls and my sister’s car accident that was caused by a driver under the influence of narcotics.
I chose the birth of my daughters because giving birth to a child is the most amazing and life altering experience a person could have. Both of my girls have changed my life for the better simply by being born. So many things will change in a new parent’s life and you get to experience a level of love that could not have been imagined before. I also chose my sister’s car accident because it made me realize how much I love my sister and how much I had taken her for granted my entire life. It was a powerful eye opener that I so desperately needed. I always just assumed that nothing like that would ever happen to someone so close to me. This experience proved that anything can happen to anyone at any time.
Bronfenbrenners rings influence every aspect of life. Giving birth to my daughters is affected by many of Bronfenbrenners rings. As individuals complications at birth affected the health of both of my daughters and myself. My oldest was two months premature do to a condition called Eclampsia. Eclampsia is high blood pressure brought on during pregnancy. It is very dangerous for both the mother and the child. Eclampsia could cause the mother to have a stroke which could lead to death for both the mother and the baby during delivery. At the time of my daughter’s birth she was blue and not breathing on her own. Babies brought into the world prematurely have under developed lungs, and if it had not been for the immediate actions of the nurses the lack of oxygen could have caused her brain damage or ended her life. During the birth of my youngest daughter I was in active labor for over 12 hours. They had to keep turning her due to lack of oxygen and they had to stop labor several times because she had a heart murmur and her heart beat would either drop or accelerate to an unsafe level.
“The Microsystem refers to the daily environment”. (Mossler 2013 Pg. 2.3) Having my girls affects my Microsystem because they are my family and therefore are a part of my daily environment. For example if my oldest has spelling bee practice or a Girl Scouts meeting I may get less done around my house than I would on a day she did not have those things going on. My children may also affect my Mesosystem. Mossler says the mesosystem describes the interaction between groups within the microsystem. For instance, a stressful event
