Forties and Fifties

A Swiss Psychiatrist named Carl Jung described the forties and fifties age as the time in life when people have had children, taken care of them, made money and gained a position in society so are now free to move on the other things. Frederic Hudson said that people may feel exhausted by their activities, trapped in careers and in relationships. He goes on to say that even if you have obtained your dream and are successful, you may still feel disappointed because it has taken all your life to attain it. At this age, you come to realize all your goals may not be met, and time is running out.

The Bible and the forties and fifties

In the Bible times, not many people lived long. There were a few who lived a remarkable long life, but the age period of forties and fifties are not mentioned specifically. There are passages that speak of marriage, purpose in life, work, self esteem, children, children and older parents, disappointments and more. Very little on age, but the principles that apply must be altered to each counselees needs no matter the age.

The Causes of problems In forties and fifties

Carl Jung says people are not prepared for their second half of their life. Daniel Levinson says that most people reach forty, most go through a midlife transition. They reach middle age and realize their goals for life have not been reached. Some specialists believe this mostly affects men. At forty there are some people who feel restless, they begin to wonder what

purpose they have in life, what their value is. Around this age, the body starts going through some changes. Hair changes color and may thin, skin changes, movements and strength changes,

just to name a few. Some people think the forties and fifties are the prime of life. But many feel the demands of everyday. They become bored at work, home, in bed and become afraid because performances in all these areas are lacking. They may feel no excitement and their appearance is not the same as others. Work is no longer a challenge. Freud said that the need to every person is to love and to work, and that if fulfillment is not found in these areas our lives are not c complete.

The Effects of Problems in forty and fifty year olds

General Douglas McArthur said that age is a mind set. There are some people who go through life and relish in it, feeling this is the best time of their life. Then there are others who do not acknowledge the age process and are bitter and angry.
