(GE) is a world famous corporation once headed for a crisis without being noticed. It was then that GE had Jack Welch step up into a corporate leadership position, which changed everything. Using various management strategies, Welch transformed GE into an industry leader for benchmarking and maximizing productivity and labor efficiency. These changes included were but not limited to, the restructuring of purchases and sales of business units, the removal of unnecessary layers of middle-management, reducing workforce, and creating new rewards and recognition system. GE began transforming its company and a global legacy. Every company has a history, and General Electric is no different. The General Electric Company was formed in 1892 when Edison General Electric and Thomas-Houston merged (General Electric, 2015). The merger took place after both companies learned that they could not produce enough electrical installations based on their patents and technology when operated separately (Galco, n.d). General Electric was the pioneer of the first “practical” incandescent light bulb and eventually the first Central Power Station in America (General Electric). General Electric continues to grow; they have taken an interest in the environmental impact of energy and launched ecomagination in an effort to assist in the reduction of emissions in 2005 (General Electric).

General Electric In the commercial arena, GE has cornered the market in power consulting, energy management, power conversion, and aviation products and services. In both the consumer and commercial markets, capital services (real estate and financial planning), healthcare, and services to the mining, oil, and gas industries (General Electric). The General Electric Company is a publically traded company with Nasdaq Exchange, Dow Jones Industrial Average, and the Standard & Poor (General Electric). The annual financial reports for The General Electric Company reveal a steady decline in gross income between 2009 and 2013 (Market Watch, 2015). During the five year period of financials reported by General Electric Company, gross income in 2009 was $83.13 billion and in 2013, it was reported to be $70.07 billion resulting in a $13.5 billion dollar loss (Market Watch) General with unyielding integrity. The slogan for the company is a simple but memorable statement. Easily identifiable, with any of its products, “We bring good things to life” (GE).General Electric’s vast empire in the industrial products sector is both in diversified machinery and financial services around the world through their company. There are over 307,000 employees throughout the enterprise. The company is divided into several areas to help Electric, 2014). employees to share the decisions regarding their jobs.
