How are OD values different or similar to human values you are aware of?
The genesis and emergence of OD as an organizational change framework did not emerge from a vacuum but from the rich history of human relations management beginning in the 1940’s. Leading scholars and nascent practitioners such as Kurt Lewin, Douglas Mccregor , Robert Blake and Chris Argyris to mention just a few, imbued OD with a deep rooted appreciation of the human element and human values in the work environment. OD began to stand for :
- Employee dignity and respect ( Respect and inclusion)
- Employee participation in decision making ( Collaboration)
- Responsible freedom and autonomy
- Treatment of employee as mature adults ( Empowerment)
- Stress on employee growth
- Development of meaningful jobs
- Recognition of human potential and values ( Authenticity , Self-Awareness)
Human Values are the virtues that guide us to take into account the human element when one interacts with other human beings. They are the many positive dispositions that create bonds of humanity between people and thus have value for all of us as human beings. They are our strong positive feelings for the human essence of the other. Its both what we expect of others to do to us and what we aim to give to other human beings. These human values have the effect of bonding, comforting, reassuring . Human values thus defined are universal. They are shared by all human beings. Human values are for example :

- Honesty, fairness, loyalty , sharing , solidarity
