Movie Review: Mrs. Doubtfire
Truly hilarious and intriguing, Mrs. Doubtfire is a movie that spans many themes and genres, mainly comedy and drama. The movie takes place in San Francisco and was produced in 1993. The Stars of the movie are Robin Williams who plays both Daniel Hillard (the father) and Mrs. Doubtfire (the nanny), Sally Field as Miranda (the wife), and Pierce Brosnan as Stuart Dunmeyer (Miranda's Boyfriend). The children of Daniel and Miranda are played by Lisa Jakub as Lydia, Mathew Larence as Chris and Mara Wilson as Natalie.
As far as the story goes, it is very interesting and captivating. The movie talks about Daniel Hillard, a recently divorced father of three. He is a loving father, but the court didn't give him custody of his children because the mother, Miranda, paints him out to be a washout and a failure incapable of caring for the children especially since he is also out of a job. He decides that the best way to see his children is to disguise himself as a nanny and have his wife unwittingly hire him. His children eventually figure out who the nanny, Mirs Doubtfire, really is and they love the idea of having their father with them. Daniel searches for a job in the acting business, using his talent of changing voices multiple times within the same conversation to his advantage. The plot thickens when Miranda introduces the "nanny" to her new boyfriend Stuart… what is Daniel going to do, and how will he cope with the emotions he is feeling towards his wife and the hostility towards Stuart for being with his children? Those are the truly intense and comic points of the movie, especially when… I'm not going to ruin it for you, you'll have to find out on your own!
The acting in the movie is truly superb. The most prominent acting, of course, is done by Robin Williams. As always, he is extremely hilarious and very talented. At one point in the movie, when he is trying to land the job as the nanny, he uses at least a dozen different voices and tones over the phone while Miranda is interviewing the supposedly different nannies, and she is none the wiser! He actually fools her into thinking that she interviewed a dozen nannies when it was actually him all along. He plays the role of the strict, disciplinarian nanny, the all-too-casual nanny, the psychotic and delicate nanny, and finally he acts as a British lady who knows exactly how to
