Interview with a Senior Citizen
The interview I conducted was with an elderly lady that has been a friend of the family for as long as I can remember. While conducting the interview we decided to create a false name for her in the paper it allows the reader to see her as a person, this was her idea. She choose the name Sonya, she said she always wanted to be called Sonya. The interview was conducted in her home in the living room area at 4:00 in the afternoon on Saturday, July 6, 2013.
Question & Answer Session:
Hi, Sonya how are you doing today?
“I’m good baby, I can’t complain and if I was too what good would it do me too! (Giggles).
Sonya, can you tell me a little about yourself and your family?
“Well I was born and raise her in Chicago, I am an only child no siblings although I always wanted some. My momma and daddy meet at the Campbell soup factory and were later married. Sonya you said your mother and father meet at Campbell soup factory are they from Chicago as well?
“That’s a good question baby, well my father was born and raised in the great state of Mississippi Tupelo that is, he came to Chicago when he was twenty two years old and lived with his older brother Louis until he found him a job and that’s where him and my mother meet. My momma was born here on the south side of Chicago and where she spent her whole life at. When they where married he moved into the family building that my momma had left her and her sister”.
Where did you attend school at her in Chicago?
“I attended Sherwood grammar school it was right down the street from our house and then when I graduated from there I went to Dusable high school, that’s where most of my cousin went and
