• One of the methods that Freud would use to threat this type of patient would be to encourage him to use free association; which will imply telling all of the truth, no matter how embarrassing the truth may be. Freud would argue that there is much more than what the guy is telling his parents and that he has to bring his unconscious thoughts to his conscious in order to understand what he is going through.
• Rogers and the humanistic therapy would encourage the young man to self-actualize. In fact, if he is not happy to date this girl, then he should not do it just because his parents want him to, he should do it because he feels happy when he does.
• Freudian would not accept the humanistic therapy because it implies that all of our inborn instincts are good and that by self-actualizing, no one will be harmed. Since Rogers believes this, then he does not think the patient is hiding anything, as everything is good, therefore there is no need to bring the unconscious into the conscious.
• The patient would have to go through an exposure therapy by the use of the anxiety hierarchy. The young man will identify what he thinks his problem is and then he will create a thing from the things that cause the least to the most anxiety and he will seek to conquer each item on the list, in order to move to the next one. This type of behavior will not allow for the patient to know the source of their problems, but it will most likely help them solve it.
• He would probably be given Valium, Librium, or Xanax as these are used to treat anxiety disorders; they are tranquilizers. From what it is told about the young man, he seems very agitated and anxious, which are specially seen through the physical manifestations, such as his palms sweating.
