In any sort of psychological research it is absolutely critical that the study maintains the basic ethical standard. Without these ethical standards, though the research could be deemed as useful for the knowledge and intuition it would provide, it would be potentially harmful for the participants of the experiment.
When researching psychology experiments, it is important that they’re a strong emphasis on providing the participant with standards with which they can feel comfortable. One of the major ethical issues, I would like to cover is informed consent. Key to ethical research, it is important that the participant is notified and full aware of the obligations and responsibilities. Situations where the participant is unable to understand the language and where there are little kids involved are scenarios that may not involve the correct level of informed consent. Another major issue with regards to ethics is the use of deception in research. Deception was considered routine in research in the 1960 and since has been considered a severe breach of ethical standard. Deception is often carried out when participants are misled regarding the purpose of the research. Lastly, one of the most important aspects is maintaining confidentiality. It is important that the participant has the right to decide what the research will be used for. It would be unfair that researchers are not held to confidentially because they are able to influence participants based on vulnerability by age, gender, status, or disability.

Had I been provided with the details of the experiment I would have not problem participating. In spite of this, I believe that informing the subject about the research may compromise the results as subjects may react differently in the experiment as opposed to in uncontrolled instance in daily life. This experiment tests interpersonal relationships so it important that the patient is granted privacy during the experiment and confidentiality with the results.
