1. Executive Summary

Purpose of our assignment is to identify if Smith and Ken requires hiring 3rd receptionist and if it is so, what candidate will determine majority of necessary requirements for the role. It also explores the procedures and steps that are conducted by Smith & Ken management to fill the position of receptionist and to help the candidates succeed. First of all, we have started to analyze the job of receptionist to get clear image about the position itself, suitable personality and the basic KSAOs required for the job. We have been using different methods to collect the data throughout interviews with incumbents, revising the previous performance appraisals of receptionists and academic articles. After arranging the proper selection process, we have discussed some activities that were conducted to maximize the success of selected applicants. Then we have tried to provide some advantages and disadvantages of selection techniques with reference to literature review from the academic literature. Finally, recommendations have been made in order to provide the company with suggestions regarding job analysis, selection tools and some activities that could increase the success of new employees. The suggestions will be based on clarifying opportunities which allow the HR manager to make changes in the selection process.

2. Introduction: Company Profile - Smith & Ken:

Smith and Ken is a British owned and managed Real Estate Company. It was established back in 2008. The concept of this company is unique for the industry – having all services "Under one roof".

Company has been awarded as the best letting agency in the GCC region in 2011, and it kept growing by opening two other departments - Relocation and Conveyance. In 2012 company came up with another department – Smith and Ken Community Management.

For the whole duration of 2013 number of departments remained the same and employees vary from100 to 120 employees. However, this year Smith and Ken decided to open franchisee office in Los Angeles, US.
