Buddhism

One of the world’s oldest religions is called Buddhism. Buddhism has an influence on many cultures throughout Asia and now has followers in the west Buddhism began in India and started from a life experience of one person. Many legends have been raised around the teaching and life of Buddha. It can be hard to separate fact from fiction because there is no single truthful biography of the Buddha.

History of Buddhism and the life of Buddha

Buddha was first named Siddhartha and was born son of a prince from the shakya tribe also known as napal in the lower Himalaya Mountains. Siddhartha mother “Maya” dreamed that a white elephant entered her side and that was the conception of the future of Siddhartha. A saga examined Siddhartha mother “Maya” died one week later after she gave birth to him leaving him to be raised by his aunt, Baby Siddhartha during the examination the sage saw marks that indicated baby Siddhartha would be an illustrious person. During Siddhartha naming ceremony a priest said that Siddhartha life would go in one of two directions which was either he would follow his father footsteps by inheriting his father’s position and becoming a king or either he were to be exposed to the sight of suffering he would become a spiritual leader or world teacher, because Siddhartha wanted him to follow his footsteps he took drastic measures to keep Siddhartha from exposure to suffering. Siddhartha was kept in a large walled palace compound he was raised in luxury married by an early age and had a son. Siddhartha was also trained as a warrior and educated to eventually take over his father’s role.

However Siddhartha decided that was not what he wanted therefore he escaped by going to the edge of the palace grounds, he gave his servant his horse removed his jewels and cut off his hair. He cut off all of his hair showing he had decided renounce the luxury life style he was used to calling himself Gautama.

Gautama then began wandering from on place after another searching for truth. He studied with best teachers available in his day but none of them knew exactly how to end suffering. For six years he ate only leaves, foots and fruit. Sometimes days Gautama even went without eating. Later Gautama realized by not eating didn’t bring him any closer to putting an end to suffering.
