After working for about five years in the Valley of the Kings and finding almost nothing at all, Howard Carter was finishing off the season, when he made a remarkable discovery.

On the morning of this remarkable day Carter’s cousin had been in charge of transporting water jars onto the site. He started digging his first hole when he discovered the top of a step that cut in a rock. He showed Carter andn November 4, 1922, while Carter was clearing away some ancient huts, one of his workmen found a hidden step near the b together they started wiping awad. ‘This is the tomb,’ Howard Carter remarked.
In great excitement he sent a guard to make sure no one disturbed the area and he ran back to his tent to send a telegram to Lord Carnarvon. Lord Carvon and his daughter arrived 20 days later and watched as the workers broke down the first door.
