My life is an example to many, because you have been my strength and protection. Psalm 71:7
If someone put a sign on your back that read I am a Christian, how would your friends and associates respond? Would they say, cool. I knew it all along? Or would they say, are you kidding me? Not them!?
David says his life is an example because of what God has done in his life.
We are examples to those around us, but what kind of examples? If we live with God’s strength and protection, we become positive examples.
Some translations use the world wonder instead of example. When we walk with the Lord, He does signs and wonders around His believers.
David’s life served as an example to many. From a solitary shepherd, to king of the nation, God increased his influence because of three statements in Psalm 71:7.
1. David had a relationship with God. His influence is because of God. If we want to change the world, we must begin with God changing us. We can’t begin with our example. That is the result of God, not a method we use.
2. David had God’s strength to do right. When he was weak, God was strong. Without God’s power, we cannot help ourselves, much less others.
3. David depended upon God’s protection from his enemies. We cannot defeat evil without God’s protection.
David’s present example in Psalm 71:7 came from his ongoing relationship, strength and protection from God that began when he was young.
If you want to become an example, begin growing in your walk with God today. What He changes in you today will become a great Godly example tomorrow.
