Martin[a] Luther King Jr
I chose to write about Martin Luther King Jr. because I am a man of color and he fought for racial equality. I have respect for Dr. King because he fought for people of color but also wanted black Americans and white Americans not to see color from each other. This man was great because of the things he accomplished I can vote, I can sit in a restaurant, and eat at the front. His struggles help pave the way for the Civil Rights Act and the Voters Rights Act. In the course of struggle social activists often arrive at new understanding so for the injustices people.
Martin Luther King Jr was a man who had a lot of faith in God. This is how he overcame obstacles and achieved success. Mr. King’s mission was to received equality for everyone especially black people because they were treated unfairly. He was always thrown in jail, he received threats and his home was bombed. Stewart (2014) stated “In 1963, Dr. King spoke his prophetic words, ‘one day right there in Alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls’ as sisters and brothers. And the world took notice...’Nineteen sixty-three is not an end but beginning...With this faith we will be able...to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day...And if America is to be a great nation, this must become true...And so let freedom ring...’” (From I have a dream speech).
Education was very important to Dr. King. That’s why he wanted blacks and whites to stand together. Black schools didn’t have the up to date books and materials as white schools. One of Dr. King a favorite quote was "The function of education, therefore, is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. But education which stops with efficiency may prove the greatest menace to society." (Martin Luther King, Jr., The Purpose of Education). Dr. King also reflected on Brown v. Board of Education. When schools were segregated blacks were able to get the same education as whites.
